Our Story

Cedar Breaks BBQ is a fun, family place with an atmosphere that provides time to disconnect from the world & connect with people. We want you to feel the sense of community that is created through good BBQ & the simple things in life. Clay is a 4th generation Simmons on this place and has a strong connection to the land. Our family wants to continue to passionately work from this land, as did the generations before us. Clay’s grandfather, Nelson (Mike) Simmons, would cut cedar posts by hand to make ends meet. People that did this in those days were called cedar choppers. Most people looked at people who did this type of work as lower class or poor. In a sense, BBQ is the same way with humble beginnings. Poor people would take a large, tough, less than desirable cut of beef and find a way to feed a good meal that was also delicious. The name Cedar Breaks pays tribute to those times and to the generations before us that lived on this land. BBQ has become trendy, but we want to remember its beginnings. We feel traditional BBQ is one of the best representations of family, community, hard work & being a true Texan.
